Songwriting Chords: Long and Short
In this next example we'll look at another aspect of chord - melody interaction. This time we'll take the note length into account. We'll take a simple A minor chord again. Take a look at the next sheet music with 4 simple melody examples. Each bar shows a different use of long and short notes, and what's more important, notes that are in the chord, notes that are in the scale and notes that are not even in the A minor scale. Listen to the example and try to explain what is really happening.
