I would Recomend 4 string, If you have two Guitarists, But sometimes a 5 string usually goes with distortion pedals alot better (I think they sound better), So what youu want to do is up to you

I used to play the normal guitar (acustic and a bit of electric) off and on, and a couple friends and I are wanting to start a band, and we need a bass player so I decided to learn. What type of bass should I get to start with? I was hearing a normal 4 string is the way to go. Thank you in advance, David
4 string. I've been playing for about 17 years now and bought my first 5 string about a year ago. The B string got in my way more then anything. I gave it a year to be fair, but found that there's not too much you can do with a 5 string that can't be done on a 4 string. My humble opinion
